Job Title: Creative Reuse Specialist (2 Openings)

Location: Brevard, NC (In person)

Reports to: Executive Director

Hourly rate: $18-20/hr

Status: Part-time, 15-20 hours/week (Wednesday - Saturday availability required) beginning late August 2026.

 

About Us

Sunshine Creative Reuse is an art supply thrift store and maker studio opening late summer 2026 in downtown Brevard, NC. Founded in 2024, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission to inspire creativity and increase access to the arts through creative reuse. We accept donations of gently used art supplies and other creative materials and get them back into the hands of makers through our retail store and classes and events. Through these programs and services, we help make the arts more accessible and affordable in our community. You may have seen us around town at festivals and local businesses offering pop-up creative opportunities to our community. Position Overview

The Creative Reuse Specialist is a key member of our founding team at Sunshine Creative Reuse. This role will help us launch our first retail location and maker studio, and will be involved in retail operations, donation processing, customer service, merchandising, volunteer support, and community engagement. The Creative Reuse Specialist will ensure that our space is organized, welcoming, and supportive to those who are eager to shop, create, and connect with us and their community. 

 

The ideal candidate is creative, organized, adaptable, and highly dependable. All team members, including the Creative Reuse Specialist, must be willing to work on various projects that arise in a growing and evolving startup environment (both independently, and collaboratively with other team members, volunteers, and members of the community). Our ideal Creative Reuse Specialist is also passionate about sustainability, reuse, the arts/arts education, and community engagement. Key Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to shoppers, donors, artists, instructors, studio attendees, and community members

• Operate the point-of-sale system and process transactions accurately

• Assist with opening and closing procedures of the retail store and maker studio (you will be trained to open/close the store when needed)

• Monitor and maintain maker studio supplies, safety, and cleanliness; demonstrate and reinforce studio policies and best practices

• Assist community members with donation processing, which includes donation intake and inspection through an appointment-based system

• Maintain sufficient retail inventory by stocking, sorting, and pricing supplies in accordance with our protocol

• Assist with recycling or responsible disposal of unusable materials

• Welcome and assist volunteers during scheduled shifts, including providing some instruction to volunteers and demonstrating safe and effective processing of materials

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized facility

• Monitor inventory levels and restock merchandise in collaboration with volunteers

• Support data collection related to donations, sales, volunteer hours, and waste diversion

• Represent the organization professionally and share the mission of Sunshine Creative Reuse in-store and at community events on- and off-site

• Help develop efficient operating procedures as the organization grows

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director in support of the organization’s mission

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

• Passion for community, sustainability, creative reuse, environmental stewardship, or the arts / arts education

• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

• Highly organized and detailed

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

• Ability to perform physical work, including standing and walking around the facility for extended periods of time and lifting up to 40 lbs.

• Skilled in operating basic technology such as point-of-sale system, iPad

• Available to work various shifts between operating hours Wednesday through Saturday, with Saturday availability a must.

• Flexibility to work evenings as needed

• Must be able to pass a background check

• Must be 18 years of age or older

 

Preferred:

• Experience in retail, nonprofit organizations, arts education, or in reuse/sustainability-oriented organizations

• Experience working with volunteers and community members

• Familiarity with arts and craft materials

• Cash handling and point-of-sale experience
